At least, Infinite Warfare is the top selling console game for the entire year base on sales figures thus far. That means that the game, which was released just this past 4th of November, has beat out every other game that was released even earlier. The excitement seems to continue to be strong for the Call of Duty franchise despite what the overall impression across the Internet might be.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare

Infinite Warfare sells more in a month than most in a whole year

And this is the eighth consecutive year that a Call of Duty game has been the top seller, on consoles mind, for the year. This means that revenues due to pre-release sales, DLC map packs and more were very strong. More than likely, though, it wasn’t the newer game itself that drove the high sales.

“Call of Duty is retail’s #1 grossing console franchise in the U.S. for the 8th consecutive year and the boldly innovative Infinite Warfare is the #1 grossing console game of the year at retail in the U.S.,” said Eric Hirshberg, Activision’s CEO. “In addition to our annual blockbuster release, Call of Duty is about engaging fans year around. Black Ops 3 has had amazing engagement all year and now with the classic, boots on the ground gameplay of Modern Warfare Remastered, and the thrilling new experiences of Infinite Warfare, we have a great experience for every Call of Duty fan this holiday.”

The inclusion of a remastered version of Modern Warfare could have greatly contributed to this achievement, however. The general consensus has been that this alone has been worth the cost of entry for the entire package, driving sales for the newer game. In other words, Modern Warfare is likely the, again, the top selling game of it’s time. Though that particular sentiment wasn’t shared in the press release.
