The very first modern day computer virus just turned 30 years old today, and thankfully it doesn’t effect modern computers at all. The virus was called Brain. It’s first form was found January 1986.

The Brain

The Brain, the most sophisticated attack for its time, turns 30

Brain affected the IBM PC by replacing the boot sector or a floppy disk copy with a copy of the virus.

After the boot sector was infected it showed up as ©Brain. And after that it showed the following message to the user:

Welcome to the Dungeon (c) 1986 Basie & Amends (pvt) Ltd VIRUS_SHOE RECORD V9.0 Dedicated to the dynamic memories of millions of viruses who are no longer with us today – Thanks GOODNESS!! BEWARE OF THE er..VIRUS : this program is catching program follows after these messages….$#@%$@!!

For it’s time it was a very advanced virus. And lots of good willing programms have been creating thanks to it. Unfortunately more virusses have been created aswell after this virus came out.

But we still want to congratulate Brain on it’s 30th birthday, and we hope we will never get infected by you again.
