Yesterday during Huawei’s event in Munich they had a few interesting products that they revealed to the public. The least of which is the Mate 9 Porsche Design edition, a more premium and higher specification variant for those who wish something a bit more unique,

In addition to the slightly different exterior design, the premium phone also gets an increase in resolution from 1080P to 1440P on it’s smaller, curved 5.5-inch screen, gains 6GB of DDR4 instead of 3GB and 256GB of UFS 2.1 using storage. It also has the same size battery as its more normal priced cousin. That’s 50% more RAM, 100% more storage and a 100% increase in price. Realistically you’re buying the R&D that went into designing this by designers and engineers that are well paid, so it’s not much different in functionality. Just more expensive.

That design, though, is quite stunning even if it uses the usual materials and even if the underlying phone itself is basically the same. The problem lies in the fact that you’re paying far more than it may actually be worth. Having the same battery capacity with a higher-resolution screen actually potentially decreases battery life by a good margin decreasing its relative value an actual mobile device. Beauty does not make it functional. Though he increased storage does, considering theres a lack of expandable internal storage.
