Microsoft has managed to launch a Surface as a Service program that lets individuals or businesses to essentially lease the latest first-party Surface products from Microsoft.

They announced the new direction and service at the Worldwide Partner Conference that took place in Toronto just today. Cloud Solution Providers and Surface Authorized Distributors, including Microsoft’s online store and their physical stores, are capable of providing you with the latest hardware for a monthly fee per each user. The pricing is not static and you can configure just what devices you want to receive. That said, it starts at $70.99/month for the lowest specced Surface Pro 4 and $108.99/month for a Surface Book without a dGPU.

Pundits have been aware that they were likely going to transition into a subscription service just as they’ve made Office available as a subscription. It allows one to have the most up-to-date hardware whenever it releases. It helps to simplify the acquisition process by IT departments who already see the value, and use, Microsoft’s hardware.

A little bonus for those subscribers is that you’ll get to integrated with the Microsoft Complete for Business Extended Service Plan with Accidental Damage Protection.
