Believe it or not, Seagate has been making active changes not only in how they’re marketed and branded, but also in their products themselves to ensure that quality and reliability was at the forefront. The myths of old are slowly being overwritten by much better tales with a distinct lack of drive failures and increased sales as a result. They may not have a consumer SSD at the moment (anymore), but they do have some very large and reliable platter-based technologies that they’ve been leveraging to help them become a dominate leader in storage again, for both consumers and in the enterprise and data-centers. An 80% increase in net income is no laughing matter, and their reputation has also seen a similar increase in positive sentiments. It’s all quite positive.
