The Night Before Christmas; A Star Wars Holiday Adventure
‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all throughout Endor,
Not a creature was stirring, not even Lando.
The X-wings were tucked in the hangers with care,
In hopes that Darth Vader soon would be there.
The Rebels were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Stormtroopers shot through their heads.
Her Highness in her ‘kerchief, and I with my ship,
Had just settled down with some toast and french dip.
When out in the forest there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the view port I flew like a flash,
Tore open the blast door with a very loud crash.
Two moons on the glint of ten-year-old snow,
Gave the luster of tatooine to objects below.
When what should appear, like great soaring hawks,
But a miniature Star Destroyer, and eight tiny Ewoks.
Fire was leaping out from the hearth,
I knew in a moment it must be ol’ Darth.
More rapid than eagles his Ewoks they came,
And he breathed and he wheezed and he called them by name!
“Now Yoda! Now Leia! Now Luke and Land!
On Chewie! On Palpatine! On R2 and 3PO!
To the top of the shield generator, to the top of the wall!
Now dash away, dash away! Dash away you all!”
As Y-wings that before the Death Star did fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, and mount to the sky.
So up to the Rebel Base the Ewoks, they flew,
With the Star Destroyer full of weapons, and Darth Vader too.
Then I head on the roof and listened with awe,
The scraping and writhing of each little paw.
As I drew in my head, and stood still at a stand,
Through the blast door Darth Vader came with his command.
Dressed all in black, from his head to his foot,
So no one could notice the ashes and soot.
A bundle of weapons he had hung on his back,
And he looked like a bounty hunter, just opening his pack.
His eyes, how they scowled! His dimples, wait, where?
His cheeks were like tin foil and his nose wasn’t there!
His breathing apparatus was drawn up in a smile,
He did not mind coughing or wheezing for awhile.
The stump of a lightsaber he held tight near his teeth,
And the light it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and buttons on his belly,
They blinked when he laughed thank the force he wasn’t too smelly.
He was strong and plump, a right jolly old man,
And I laughed when I saw him, the frightening madman.
A flick of his lightsaber and a nod of his head,
Even from this Sith Lord, I had nothing to dread.
He spoke not a word but went straight to his work,
And filled all the X-wings, then turned with a jerk.
Laying his finger beside of his nose,
Giving a nod, then through the ceiling he rose!
He sprang to his Star Destroyer, to his team gave a wink,
And away they all flew like a vile mixed drink.
But I heard him exclaim as he flew out of sight,
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”

We know we’ll likely be over-indulging in a feast and spending time with family, and we wish all of our readers a fantastic time as they do the same. And for those fighting for their countries overseas, we hope they stay safe and get to enjoy the companionship of their brethren in this not so great time. Thank you for your service. I’ve been there, away from home in a foreign land during this time. It’s not fun, but our thoughts will be with you. And prayers, if you do believe. Happy Holidays! Happy Hanukah! Merry Christmas!
