Tesco Bank has had to completely suspend all online processing of transactions after they found some startling criminal activity that occurred over the weekend. Some 20,000 accounts had money stolen while 40,000 total seemed to log suspicious activity.
The perpetrator of the Tesco Bank heist is still unknown
Though they’re committed to continuing to find who was behind the intrusions, though we’re still not so clear on how exactly it became so wide-spread, either. As a result, they’ve suspended all online activity for all 8 million banking customers as a precautionary measure.
Tesco has been quick to respond once they uncovered the indiscretion. “We apologise for the worry and inconvenience that this has caused for customers, and can only stress that we are taking every step to protect our customers’ accounts,” the bank’s chief, Benny Higgins, said. They are also in the process of refunding all of the affected accounts where fraudulent activity has been detected. There is no word on when online banking will return to normal, though they’re working with law-enforcement agencies to try to ascertain how this happened and who conducted this modern day bank heist of Tesco Bank.
